Does the goal justify the target?

Everyone heard about this saying at least once. Every end of something justifies the means that led to it. In the business world, everyone is everybody’s competition so that everything is acceptable and that the agent always finds a way to be justified.

Competitive parties know that they are very cruel and in the long run, one must always lose. If you want to win, then you have to build trust within your work. How with associates you are working on, as well as with potential clients.

Success comes and goes, integrity remains

Anyone who has successfully built his name in a job knows that the basis of this success was integrity. Doing what is right, regardless of whether someone sees it or not, builds trust and authenticity, and it will not go unnoticed.

For some things, years are needed, in order to build trust, but just one mistake is enough, so that trust is erased. Keep in mind this truth when it comes to what you are doing, because it will help you to overcome competition and endure in some difficult moments that occur. And this truth is never negotiated.

Integrity creates confidence that results in profit. Consistency is also important. How customers will not get impressions that are actually an antithesis of reality as it is within your working environment.

Nothing makes you weaker than the excuses that you can potentially say or from concealing your own knowledge. How can any client trust you if you are unsure or do not know something?! What’s more important is that the job is built on relationships. Rejecting some truth just to make the employer happy, will only erode the ability of the team to successfully cooperate, which will ultimately lead to the breakdown of the team.

Perhaps your goal is to grow your business operation. If you own a franchise unit, for example, your goal might be to open three more units within a five-year period. If this was the case, your objectives could include scouting a new city once each quarter, or reducing your franchise fees by 25 percent for the next six months.

Another goal could be to become more efficient in your business operation as a way to increase productivity. To improve efficiency, you could set a goal of increasing shipping times from three days to two days. Objectives to meet this goal could include finding a new shipper, or improving production times to have units ready to ship before 10 a.m. each morning.

Specific: In order to work, objectives need to be concrete (not as abstract as your long-term aims) and highly detailed.

Measurable: Put a figure or value, such as a dollar amount or percentage, to the objective.

Action-oriented: Lay out which actions need to be taken by which people, and when.

Realistic: Make goals challenging, but consider your resources so that you can actually achieve them reasonably.

Time specific: Set a deadline to keep things on track.

You have to understand what the long-term goal means on a daily basis. How do you establish the goal at its most fundamental level? If I want to increase sales annually by 24 percent, how many new customers or orders a day is that?
